Spectacle's problem I do play some spectacle cards in my deck like Skewer the Critics, but not very much. I'm disappointed that the mechanic didn't work like flash, which could've made it a bit less predictable (Rakdos is uncontrolled entertainment!). I still wonder why they didn't do that.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 77.161.109.204 (talkcontribs).

Well, Spectacle is first and foremost and alternate cost keyword. You could print it on Instants or Flash cards. I fact the two mechanics work well together. I can't however answer why they didn't print a card like that.-Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 10:37, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

The general idea was that Spectacle was developed with combat damage in mind (which means your turn), as opposed to life payments, and with shocklands in standard it would be a little to easy to just throw things when your opponents shocks themselves on turn 2 and 3. It would also have that problem with fetchlands in eternal formats, so every card would need to be costed at Spectacle cost primarily and the default rate almost never. Bear in mind that it was only one set; depending on how much design space MaRo believes exists, it might get a revisit with some reasonable instants - but given that it's about 70% to only ever trigger on your turn post combat don't expect too much.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.238.19.220 (talkcontribs).
