Melek is a weird wizard of the Izzet League on Ravnica. He was chosen as the Izzet maze runner.
The Implicit Maze
Melek was created by Izzet mages to run the Implicit Maze against the other guilds, much to the dismay of Ral Zarek, one of the biggest researchers into the maze. He felt that he deserved to be the runner, but was instead assigned to coordinate the event. Just as the race was about to begin and all the runners were announcing themselves, he sapped Melek's elemental energy, thus killing Melek and becoming the runner.
