January 7	Start of the 2012 Pro Tour Season with Grand Prix Austin, Texas, USA. A short, transitional season.
February 3	Release of Dark Ascension.
February 10-12	Pro Tour Dark Ascension at Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. Won by Template:Flagicon USA Brian Kibler. First Pro Tour named after the associated set.
March 30	Release of Duel Decks: Venser vs. Koth.
May 4	Release of Avacyn Restored. Mechanically and thematically a "reboot" of Innistrad block. Storywise, Avacyn returns and saves the day. For the Prerelease, stores featured a Helvault Prerelease Kit.
May 11-13	Pro Tour Avacyn Restored at Barcelona, Spain. Won by Template:Flagicon CAN Alexander Hayne.
May 19	Start of the 2012–13 Pro Tour Season with the Grand Prix at Malmö, Sweden. Increase of large-scale tournaments.
June 1	Release of Planechase 2012.
July 13	Release of Magic 2013. Centered around Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, which became the first multicolored card to be included in a Core Set. First Core Set to feature a synchronized Deck Builder's Toolkit.
August 16-19	2012 World Magic Cup at Gen Con in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Won by team Template:Flagicon CHN China. First World Magic Cup, replacing the World Championship for teams.
August 29-31	2012 Magic Players Championship at PAX in Seattle, Washington, United States. Won by Template:Flagicon JPN Yuuya Watanabe. An exclusive sixteen-person tournament, presented as a restructured form of the Magic World Championships. Also deciding Player of the Year.
August 31	Release of From the Vault: Realms.
September 7	Release of Duel Decks: Izzet vs. Golgari.
October 5	Release of Return to Ravnica. Featuring five guilds — the Azorius Senate, Golgari Swarm, Izzet League, Cult of Rakdos, and Selesnya Conclave.
October 17-19	Pro Tour Return to Ravnica at Seattle, Washington, United States. Won by Template:Flagicon CZE Stanislav Cifka.
November 2	Release of Commander's Arsenal. Start of a new line of products conceived for the Commander format.
November 16	Release of the 2012 Holiday Gift Box.
	Player of the Year: Template:Flagicon JPN Yuuya Watanabe.
	Rookie of the Year: Template:Flagicon CAN Alexander Hayne.
