Variant cards
 
 

Thirteen cards in Unstable were printed with multiple variants.[1] These variants can differ on rules text, power and toughness, flavor text, art, watermark, and even card name. However all have the same collector number and color.

The rarity of all the variations of a particular card add up to the regular listed rarity.[2]

Amateur Auteur (#3)[ | ]

Four common 2/2 Humans with "Sacrifice Amateur Auteur: Destroy target enchantment" for {1}{W}.

They vary in art and flavor text. Each depicts a different plane-themed musical.[3]

Knight of the Kitchen Sink (#12)[ | ]

Six uncommon 2/2 Cyborg Knights with first strike and protection for {W}{W}.

They vary in with different rules and flavor text. Each protects from a different characteristics.

Novellamental (#41)[ | ]

Four common 2/1 Elementals with high flying for {1}{U}.

They vary in flavor text. All flavor texts together tell one story in four parts.

Very Cryptic Command (#49)[ | ]

Six rare instant modal spells with four modes of which you choose two for {1}{U}{U}{U}.

They vary in art and rules text. One variant features art by Wayne England who illustrated the original Cryptic Command, while the other variants are illustrated by Zoltan Boros.[3]

  • Very Cryptic Command (Art by Wayne England)
    • Switch target creature's power and toughness until end of turn.
    • Target creature can't be blocked this turn.
    • Draw a card. If that card's art is by Wayne England, you may reveal it and draw another card.
    • Assemble a Contraption
  • Very Cryptic Command
    • Untap two target permanents.
    • Tap each permanent target player controls with exactly one word in its name.
    • Discard all the cards in your hand, then draw that many cards.
    • Return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand.
  • Very Cryptic Command
    • Draw a card from an opponent's library.
    • Copy target instant or sorcery spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
    • Until end of turn, target creature loses all abilities and becomes a blue Frog with base power and toughness 1/1.
    • Create a 1/1 colorless Gnome artifact creature token.
  • Very Cryptic Command
    • Return target permanent to its controller's hand.
    • Draw two cards, then discard a card.
    • Change the target of target spell with a single target.
    • Turn over target nontoken creature.
  • Very Cryptic Command
    • Counter target black-bordered spell.
    • Return target creature to its owner's hand.
    • Untap each permanent you control with a watermark.
    • Roll two six-sided dice. Target player puts the top X cards of their library into their graveyard, where X is the total of those results.
  • Very Cryptic Command
    • Scry 3.
    • Create a 2/2 black Rogue creature token with menace.
    • Add or subtract 1 or one from a number or number word on target spell or permanent until end of turn.
    • Return all artifacts target player controls to their owner's hand.

Extremely Slow Zombie (#54)[ | ]

Four common 3/3 Zombies with last strike for {1}{B}.

They vary in art and flavor text. Each depicts a zombie through the seasons saying "Brains!" very slowly.[3]

Sly Spy (#67)[ | ]

Six uncommon 2/2 Human Spies with a saboteur ability for {2}{B}.[3]

They vary in art, flavor and rules text. Each of them has a different saboteur ability and a different explanation for what S.N.E.A.K. stands.

  • Sly Spy (That player reveals their hand. You choose a card from it with the longest name. That player discards that card.)
  • Sly Spy (You may destroy target creature facing left in its art.)
  • Sly Spy (That player loses a finger until Sly Spy leaves the battlefield.)
  • Sly Spy (You may destroy target creature facing right in its art.)
    • This variant has its art flipped so that the agent faces right. All other variants face left.
  • Sly Spy (That player reveals the top card of their library. Put that card into your hand and you lose life equal to its converted mana cost.)
  • Sly Spy (Roll a six-sided die. That player loses life equal to the result.)

Garbage Elemental (#82)[ | ]

Six uncommon Elementals for {4}{R}.

They vary in rules text, creature type, power and toughness. Each has one keyword ability and another ability. In addition one of the abilities works in black border rules, while the other works only in silver border rules.

Target Minotaur (#98)[ | ]

Four common 2/1 Minotaur Warriors with prowess for {1}{R}.

They vary in art. Each depicts the Minotaur being hit with a different spell.[3]

Beast in Show (#103)[ | ]

Four common 6/4 Beasts with trample for {4}{G}{G}.

They vary in art and flavor text. Each depicts a different looking Beast in a museum.[3]

Ineffable Blessing (#113)[ | ]

Six rare enchantments for {1}{G}.

They vary in rules and flavor text. Each allows you to choose a characteristic when it enters the battlefield and have "Whenever a creature with the chosen characteristic enters the battlefield under your control, draw a card."

Killbots (#145)[ | ]

Four common 2/1 Killbots for {2}.

They vary in card name and flavor text. This means that you can have 16 Killbots in a deck.[4] To give them all the same collector number, they are next to one another alphabetically.[3]

Everythingamajig (#147)[ | ]

Six rare artifacts with three activated abilities.

They vary in rules text and mana cost.

  • Everythingamajig {5}
    • {2}, {T}: Move a counter from one permanent onto another. If the second permanent refers to any kind of counter, the moved counter becomes one of those counters. Otherwise, it becomes a +1/+1 counter.
    • {2}, {T}: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
    • {2}, {T}: Proliferate.
  • Everythingamajig {5}
    • {2}, {T}: Draw a card. Activate this ability only if you have no cards in hand.
    • {8}, {T}: You gain 10 life.
    • {4}, {T}, Sacrifice Everythingamajig: You may put a silver-bordered permanent card from your hand onto the battlefield.
  • Everythingamajig {5}
    • {1}: Flip a coin. If you win the flip, add {C}{C}. Activate this ability only any time you could cast an instant.
    • {3}, {T}: Target player discards a card. Activate this ability only during your turn.
    • {X}: Everythingamajig becomes an X/X Construct artifact creature until end of turn.
  • Everythingamajig {6}
    • {T} Add one mana of any color.
    • {1}, {T}: Say the flavor text on a card in your hand. Target opponent guesses that card's name. You may reveal that card. If you do and your opponent guessed wrong, draw a card.
    • {8}, {T}: Everythingamajig deals 12 damage to target creature.
  • Everythingamajig {5}
    • Sacrifice a land: You gain 2 life.
    • Sacrifice a creature: Add {C}{C}.
    • {2}, Discard a card: Search your library for a card that shares a complete word in its name with the name of the discarded card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.
  • Everythingamajig {8}
    • {1}, {T}: Scry 2.
    • {1}, {T}, Pay 1 life: Create a 0/1 white Goat creature token.
    • {7}, {T}, Sacrifice Everythingamajig: Choose target player. At the beginning of the next end step, exchange life totals with that player, exchange control of all permanents you and that player control, and exchange cards in your hands, cards in your libraries, and cards in your graveyards.

Secret Base (#165)[ | ]

Five common lands with "{T}: Add {C}" and "{T}: Add one mana of any color. Spend this mana only to cast a spell that shares a watermark with Secret Base".

They vary in art and watermark. Each depicts the secret base and watermark of one Unstable faction.
