General guidance[]

With the DCI link in the title bar, is this intended to be a navigation of all formats, or of sanctioned formats? Description of intent would help. --Corveroth (talk) 00:20, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Agreed. For example, Extended (much as I adore it) is not a sanctioned format, and I don't think it should be in the template, but I'm torn on it. —ProtonZero[talk] 02:17, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
Ideally I would want to add all formats (there are obviously a lot missing)... And yes there should be a differentiation between sanctioned and unsanctioned ones. This thing is very work in progress because at the moment we don't have a proper format navigation at all... So if you have any clever ideas how to organize this better with subnavs and what not, please be bold and update the thing. - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 02:39, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
I mostly wanted to check in to see if you have some greater plan that should guide the grouping. There are several ways to make this work. --Corveroth (talk) 02:42, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
Shouldn't Extended be listed under sanctioned with the subheading retired? Currently it's under 'Casual' with the subheading retired, but it was a sanctioned (not casual) format before being retired —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.84.106.86 (talkcontribs) 21:33, 15 December 2016.
Well it was sanctioned at one point. Due to the retirement, it is now a casual format. So it makes sense under both categories. - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 21:40, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Frontier[]

Since Hareruya and BigMagic are now hosting regular tournaments in this format, should we create an article about Frontier, also known as Postmodern? The format works like Modern, except the cutoff point is Magic 2015 instead of Eighth Edition. Notably, this format also uses the introduction of a new card frame as a cutoff point, which has led to speculation about it eventually becoming a sanctioned format. —Fenhl 16:20, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Sounds good with me. Since it is not a theoretical format but people actually paying this. So go for it. - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 18:26, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Done. —Fenhl 06:48, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Sanctioned vs official[]

The recent edit on Frontier's page, clarifying that said format isn't officially recognized, highlights the distinction between a format being sanctioned and a format being, in some sense, official. Lists of sanctioned formats are easy to come by, so I'm not interested in changing those parts of the navbox. However, the Conspiracy (Draft), Commander, Planechase, and Archenemy formats are all not sanctioned, yet have product published by Wizards. Does anyone object to sorting these out of the broader casual set, as a fourth top-level group between MTGO and Casual? --Corveroth (talk) 22:23, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
