Sage

Sage is an obsolete creature class representing someone who has, shown, or indicated profound wisdom regarding magic or some other subject of knowledge.

Description[ | ]

Sage debuted as a creature type in Antiquities for the card Sage of Lat-Nam. The type was later dropped in the Grand Creature Type Update when it was consolidated with Artificer. Despite this original Sage becoming an Artificer, most other Sages introduced since have instead been given other classes including Advisor, Druid, Monk, Shaman, and Wizard.

Alara[ | ]

Those at the Sanctum Arcanum who have pondered every word on every page of the Filigree Text are known as Filigree Sages. Other types of sages on the plane include Frontline Sages and Sages of the Anima.

Arcavios[ | ]

The magical school of Strixhaven is home to numerous sages including Kasmina. Quandrix is home to Manifestation Sages who learn about and how to break the laws of metaphysics. Other types are Symmetry Sages.

Dominaria[ | ]

The College of Lat-Nam is a school of magic and wizardry which is home to various sages. The calendar of Corondor was created by a group known as the Sages of Minorad who gathered in the spires of Minorad, the northernmost habitable point in Corondor, to share their knowledge and document the passing of time. During the Temporal crisis of Dominaria Clairvoyants across the plane were driven mad by the overload from the widening time rifts, while other random folk gained the gift of future sight such as the Sages of Epityr. Other types of sages on the plane include the Sage Avens, Keldon Flamesages, and Wood Sages. Sage Owls are said to house the souls of archmages of ages past.

Eldraine[ | ]

The archmage Valya hid on the plane as an Unassuming Sage. The merfolk of the plane also have Sages of the Falls

Ikoria[ | ]

Ikoria is home to Rielle, a wilderness sage, who claims to know "almost everything about almost everything on Ikoria". She is companions with an immense reptilian hippopotamus known as Keruga, the Macrosage, and considers Keruga a great sage like herself.

Innistrad[ | ]

The Firmament Sages of the plane discovered the increase in nights leading up to the Eternal Night. Sophina is known as the Spearsage Deserter. Other types on the plane include the werewolf Sages of Ancient Lore and Somberwald Sages.

Ixalan[ | ]

Ixalan is home to Sages of Days.

Lorwyn-Shadowmoor[ | ]

A "Fallowsage" of the merfolk is a wise elder merrow, many of whom find comfort in the dappled shade of riverside willow trees. The dark reflection of these are the Hollowsages. They also had Sages of Fables.

Kaladesh[ | ]

Oviya Pashiri is known as the Sage Lifecrafter and is very acclaimed for replicating the natural world down to the finest detail. She spent many years mentoring young artificers. The descendants of Shaila, an Elf who resisted the Consulate, proudly occupy the greenway that she refused to relinquish with some becoming Sages of Shaila's Claim.

Kaldheim[ | ]

Kaldheim is home to Sages of the Beyond and Skemfar Shadowsages.

Kamigawa[ | ]

Tamiyo is known as the Moon Sage due to her pursuit of knowledge which led to her becoming a planeswalker. Nashi is known as the Moon Sage's Scion after being adopted by her. Autumn-Tail was sage during the time of the Kami War.

Ravnica[ | ]

Below its leader, House Dimir is overseen by the Necrosages, who oversee the guild's activities from Duskmantle. They manipulate the flow of information, keeping the guild informed on all things whilst keeping the rest of the plane ignorant. The Primordial Sage is a spirit on the plane said to impart pieces of ancient wisdom for any who arrives in its audience. A section of the plane is known as Sage's Row which has Denizens and Savants. Other types of sages on the plane include Novijen Sages.

Takir[ | ]

The Jeskai Way being a clan of martial artists, mystics, and monks was known to have Jeskai Sages. Their prime stronghold is known as the Sage-Eye Stronghold which is home to Sage-Eye Avengers and Sage-Eye Harriers. The Djinn have Sages of the Inward Eye.

Theros is home to Sages of Hours and Sages of Mysteries

Zendikar[ | ]

Anowon is known as the Ruin Sage due to his expertise in ruins, runes, and ancient languages. Nissa Revane is a planeswalker known as the Sage Animist due to her knowledge of communicating with nature as well as being the last animist on the plane.

Unknown[ | ]

Damia is a Gorgon Sage from an unknown plane. It is said her breadth of magical knowledge rivals that of any archmage but her prices cut deep.

Zuo Ci is known as the Mocking Sage. He represents the real-life Zuo Ci who is said to have found the secret to longevity living for 300 years.
