Rally is an ability word introduced in Battle for Zendikar, which is tied to the Ally creature type.[2][3] It highlights abilities that trigger whenever an Ally enters the battlefield under your control.

Description[ | ]

Every time an Ally enters the battlefield under your control, all your rally abilities will trigger. You can put those abilities onto the stack in any order. If an Ally with a rally ability enters the battlefield under your control at the same time as other Allies, that ability will trigger once for each of those Allies and once for the creature with the ability itself.

History[ | ]

Rally functionally appeared in original Zendikar block, encompassing most of the triggers that were printed in that set (missing some number of tap abilities). In that set, the triggers divided into +1/+1 counter "Fighters", ability granting "Clerics", and Ally-scaling "Wizards". These had no ability word associated with them. [4]

With the return in Battle for Zendikar, the Rally ability was limited mostly only to "Cleric"-styled abilities, with eight keywords chosen to be granted for the set. Two give a stat boost, and four others have more generic options. While previously the "Clerics" only granted abilities to fellow Allies, Rally abilities grant them to all one's creatures.

Rally was considered a 6 on the Storm Scale, most of which is uncertainty of what Ally mechanic would be reused on the next return - in fact, the next return eschewed Allies altogether in favor of Party. With the small design space but otherwise inoffensive in design, Rally's return is dependent on the demand for Ally tribal.
