Lamia is a creature type introduced in Journey into Nyx.

Storyline[edit | edit source]

Theros[edit | edit source]

Lamias are female monsters created when powerful emotions caused by the gods' actions consume a mortal's mind. Nyxborn creatures, lamias will themselves into being with wildly varied physical forms reflecting the creature's twisted imagination.[1] Some lamias appear to have scaly, bestial bodies and humanoid faces (Thoughtrender Lamia). Others feature serpentine appearances vaguely resembling naga (Gravebreaker Lamia).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

According to mythology, Lamia was a mortal queen cursed by the goddess Hera and transformed into a monster who hunted and devoured children. In later traditions and storytelling, the lamia became a type of phantom, which seduced youths to satisfy their sexual appetite and fed on their flesh afterward.
