Birthplace Nearheath, Gavony, Innistrad
Lifetime Mending Era

Hanweir was a village located in Nearheath and the agricultural center of Gavony on the plane of Innistrad, but the town was later conscripted by Emrakul and its inhabitants merged into a single entity.

History[ | ]

Amid rising tensions in Videns parish during Avacyn's madness, The Hanweir Chronicle's editor-in-chief Oliver Hayfield documented the village's descent into paranoia.[1] To give itself greater autonomy, the village declared independence from Videns Parish and Gavony and styled itself as a new province, also named Hanweir. The town bell, Richard the Ringer, rang constantly until a new one had to be commissioned, and new walls were constructed.

As Emrakul's influence set in upon Innistrad, women in Hanweir began giving birth only to twins and the Hanweir Chronicle stopped utilizing bylines, or a line in a newspaper naming the writer of an article. The town council also instituted mandatory meals at the town's church and asserted that nobody who entered the village could leave. Eventually, the entire town was mutated into a single Eldrazi Ooze, its entire population fused into one being. And while the resultant creature hasn't been seen since the Travails[2], the town's ultimate fate is unknown.

Government[ | ]

Hanweir was ruled by a nine-member council, that governed the city by majority vote. Around the time of the city's mutation, its membership included:

  • Head Councilman Reade
  • Councilwoman Blackwell
  • Councilwoman Larssen
  • Councilman Carl Murray
  • Councilwoman Seikes

Trivia[ | ]

If one of the last entries of the Hanweir Chronicle is anything to go by, Hanweir itself reportedly has difficulty with fine manipulation, as it struggles to operate a single pen.
