For the prototype, see Prototype creature/Bears.

Bears are a creature type most associated with green. The first card to bear it was Grizzly Bears (a 2/2 for {1}{G}) from Alpha. That card has become the prototype for bears, 2/2 creatures with a 1M mana cost.

Balduvian Bears, Bear Cub, Forest Bear and Runeclaw Bear are all functional reprints of Grizzly Bears. There are nineteen cards with the subtype Bear, most of which depict lifelike creatures. Exceptions to the rule are the Phantasmal Bear which is also an Illusion, Spectral Bears and Ursine Fylgja which are Spirits as well as Bears, and the Werebear which is a Lycanthrope (a Human Bear Druid).

The first legendary bear was created by popular request for Core Set 2019: Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma[1]
