  • Blood Hound is the first creature to get +1/+1 counters whenever you're dealt damage.
  • Erithizon is the first creature to put a +1/+1 counter on a creature of defending player's choice whenever it attacks.
  • Ferocity is the first enchantment aura to put a +1/+1 counter on the creature it targets whenever it blocks or becomes blocked.
  • Rushwood Elemental is the first creature to get a +1/+1 counter during each of its' controller's upkeeps.

  • Mossdog is the first creature that gets a +1/+1 counter when it is the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls.

  • Copper-Leaf Angel is the first creature that can sacrifice lands to get +1/+1 counters.
  • Forgotten Harvest is the first non-aura enchantment that could remove lands from a graveyard to put +1/+1 counters on target creature.
  • Thrive is the first sorcery that could produce X +1/+1 counters.

  • Arctic Merfolk gets a +1/+1 counter if the kicker cost was paid.
  • Dralnu's Pet gets X +1/+1 counters if the kicker cost was paid where X is equal to the discarded card's converted mana cost.
  • Phyrexian Scuta gets two +1/+1 counters if the kicker cost was paid.
  • Quirion Dryad gets a +1/+1 counter whenever its controller plays a white, blue, black, or red spell.

  • Dodecapod comes into play with two +1/+1 counters if an opponent's spell or ability forces you to discard it from your hand.
  • Emblazoned Golem gets X +1/+1 counters if its {X} kicker cost was paid.
  • Spiritmonger gets a +1/+1 counter whenever it deals damage to another creature.

Volver Cycle[ | ]

This cycle of creatures can get one, two, or three +1/+1 counters depending upon how much of their kicker cost was paid.

  • Anavolver gets a +1/+1 counter if its {B} kicker cost was paid and/or it gets two +1/+1 counters if its {1}{U} kicker cost was paid.
  • Cetavolver gets a +1/+1 counter if its {G} kicker cost was paid and/or it gets two +1/+1 counters if its {1}{R} kicker cost was paid.
  • Degavolver gets a +1/+1 counter if its {R} kicker cost was paid and/or it gets two +1/+1 counters if its {1}{B} kicker cost was paid.
  • Necravolver gets a +1/+1 counter if its {W} kicker cost was paid and/or it gets two +1/+1 counters if its {1}{G} kicker cost was paid.
  • Rakavolver gets a +1/+1 counter if its {U} kicker cost was paid and/or it gets two +1/+1 counters if its {1}{W} kicker cost was paid.

Torment[ | ]

  • Crazed Firecat is the first creature that gets +1/+1 counters for each successful coin flip upon its coming into play.
  • Nantuko Cultivator is the first creature that gets a +1/+1 counter for each discarded land card when it comes into play.

Judgment[ | ]

  • Forcemage Advocate is the first creature that can put a +1/+1 counter on target creature by first tapping and returning target card from an opponent's graveyard to their hand.
  • Ironshell Beetle puts a +1/+1 counter on target creature when it comes into play.

Phantom creatures[ | ]

Phantom creatures come into play with a certain amount of +1/+1 counters. When they are dealt damage, prevent it. Remove a +1/+1 counter.

Onslaught[ | ]

  • Elvish Vanguard is the first creature that gets +1/+1 counters when a specific creature type (Elves) come into play.
  • Entrails Feaster is the first creature that tapped if it didn't remove a creature from the game; if it removed a creature it received a +1/+1 counter.
  • Invigorating Boon is the first enchantment that put a +1/+1 counter on target creature whenever a card was cycled.
  • Menacing Ogre comes into play with two +1/+1 counters if when it comes into play each player chooses a number and if you are one of the people with the highest number.
  • Stag Beetle is the first creature that gets +1/+1 counters based on the number of other creatures in play.

Scourge[ | ]

  • Aven Farseer is the first creature to get a +1/+1 counter whenever a creature is turned faceup (i.e. morph).
  • Carrion Feeder gained a +1/+1 counter if a creature was sacrificed.
  • Consumptive Goo — By paying {2}{B}{B}, Consumptive Goo could make a target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn and gain a +1/+1 counter.
  • Decree of Savagery puts 4 +1/+1 counters on each creature you own. It is the first instant that when cycled puts 4 +1/+1 counters on a creature.
  • Forgotten Ancient is the first creature that gets a +1/+1 counter whenever a player plays a spell. At the beginning of the owner's upkeep, they may move any number of +1/+1 counters from Forgotten Ancient onto other creatures.
  • Kurgadon is the first creature that received three +1/+1 counters whenever its owner plays a spell with a converted mana cost of 6 or more (which Scourge had many of).
  • Unspeakable Symbol is the first enchantment where you pay 3 life to put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.

  • Aquastrand Spider - 2 - {G}: Target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it gains reach until end of turn.
  • Cytoplast Manipulator - 2 - {U}, {T}: Gain control of target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it for as long as Cytoplast Manipulator remains on the battlefield.
  • Cytoplast Root-Kin - 4 - {2}: Move a +1/+1 counter from target creature you control onto Cytoplast Root-Kin.
  • Cytospawn Shambler - 6 - {G}: Target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it gains trample until end of turn.
  • Helium Squirter - 3 - {1}: Target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it gains flying until end of turn.
  • Novijen Sages - 4 - {1}, Remove two +1/+1 counters from among creatures you control: Draw a card.
  • Plaxcaster Frogling - 3 - {2}: Target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it gains shroud until end of turn.
  • Simic Basilisk - 3 - {1}{G}: Until end of turn, target creature with a +1/+1 counter on it gains "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a creature, destroy that creature at end of combat."
  • Simic Initiate - 1
  • Sporeback Troll - 2 - {1}{G}: Regenerate target creature with +1/+1 counter.
  • Vigean Graftmage - 2 - {1}{U}: Untap target creature with +1/+1 counter.
  • Vigean Hydropon - 5 - Can't attack or block.
