These 53 cards are reprints, but were not in Magic 2011. A + after the card name indicates a card that has never been in a core set before. A ! after the card name indicates a card that hasn't been Modern legal before.

Changes in rarity[ | ]

The following cards changed rarity from their last printing to Magic 2012.

Sengir Vampire was rare in Torment and subsequent printings, though it was an uncommon before. It is now uncommon again.
Volcanic Dragon was rare in Starter 1999 and is now uncommon.
Thran Golem was rare in Urza's Destiny and 9th Edition and is now uncommon.
Oblivion Ring was common in Shards of Alara and Lorwyn and is now uncommon.

Aegis Angel is strictly better than Exalted Dragon and Jedit Ojanen.
Angelic Destiny is strictly better than Divine Transformation.
Arachnus Spinner is strictly better than Needleshot Gourna, Sir Shandlar of Eberyn, The Lady of the Mountain, Torsten Von Ursus and Vastwood Gorger.
Armored Warhorse is strictly better than Keepers of the Faith.
Aven Fleetwing is strictly better than Advanced Hoverguard.
Azure Mage is strictly better than Coral Eel, Coral Merfolk, Jhessian Lookout and Wu Infantry.
Benalish Veteran is strictly better than Pearled Unicorn.
Blood Ogre is strictly better than Goblin Brawler, Goblin Hero, Gray Ogre, Orcish Veteran, Raging Bull, Sabretooth Tiger and Viashino Spearhunter.
Bonebreaker Giant is strictly better than Berserkers of Blood Ridge.
Carnage Wurm is strictly better than Rootbreaker Wurm.
Chandra's Phoenix is strictly better than Fire Drake.
Chasm Drake is strictly better than Coastal Hornclaw.
Crimson Mage is strictly better than Goblin Bully, Goblin Piker, Independent Troops and Whip Sergeant.
Crown of Empires is strictly better than Cyclopean Snare.

Since the removal of Giant Growth, Giant Spider is the only card that had appeared in all core sets from Alpha to Magic 2012.^[1]

Gideon's Lawkeeper is a functional reprint of Goldmeadow Harrier, save for creature type.
Skywinder Drake is a functional reprint of Cloud Spirit and Rishadan Airship, save for creature type.
Drifting Shade is a functional reprint of Dungeon Shade.
Bonebreaker Giant is a functional reprint of Obsidian Giant and Fomori Nomad.
Trollhide is a functional reprint of Savage Silhouette.
