General[]

Great! I thinks it would be a good idea to add the plane and race for each character. --Hunter (talk) 18:26, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Maybe we could also expand the page to characters who appear in the stories but only in a minor role (renaming it to List of secondary characters). --Hunter (talk) 18:26, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
the plane would be possible i think (depending on location information like Oran-Rief Scout or the edition in which the card was printed) for the race information it might be more difficult because of the less information. as for the list of Secondary Characters i am not against it. --Hanmac (talk) 07:17, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Adding the plane was no problem for two exceptions (core set and Future Sight). Figuring out the race may be possible but can result in guesswork. VinciEX (talk) 01:22, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
Olanti is from Muraganda, the other one I don't know either. Better don't do the race then. --Hunter (talk) 06:44, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
thanks for adding the Planes of the already listed persons, for style i think we need to change from "Name | Title | Plane", to "Name | Plane | Title" because it would be look better when Plane get rowspan too because it should be the same for a person with different titles (most of them because of the time-travel change in the Tarkir block) --Hanmac (talk) 07:13, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Subpages for large lists[]

This site is getting quite big so I was thinking if we should move some of the larger lists of secondary characters to a subpage? - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 19:29, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking Innistrad (plane)/Secondary characters --Hunter (talk) 19:40, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
I had more List of secondary characters/Innistrad in mind, basically to still have a good place for unknown place characters and planes without big set attached to them. - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 19:54, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Columns[]

To all you templating wizards. Would it be possible to prevent card names to become broken up in multiple columns? --Hunter (talk) 14:08, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm seeing many card names that have line breaks added, but nothing in multiple columns. There's CSS information in place that should be preventing that. Where are you seeing this, and what browser/OS are you using? --Corveroth (talk) 17:12, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
I'm using Firefox, I'll upload a screenshot in the forum --Hunter (talk) 07:08, 21 January 2017 (UTC) http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/community-forums/wiki/768518-split-names-is-secondary-characters-lists
I don't even... class="ul-column-count-3" should work in all browser and I don't see anylthing in the cardlink template which would cause such a break... - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 02:10, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
This may have been as simple as missing the prefixed property for Firefox. How does it look now? --Corveroth (talk) 02:19, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Nope, still the same. --Hunter (talk) 06:23, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
How about here? --Corveroth (talk) 06:35, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Nope, posted another screenshot in the forum --Hunter (talk) 08:02, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

its a Browser problem, there are some flags that should prevent that but some Browser does not support that How to prevent column break within an element? ... Probably the best would be: "display: inline-block" on the li inside the ul --Hanmac (talk) 10:29, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Non-/Mixed-Canon characters[]

Should characters from the Forgotten Realms or future Universes Beyond sets be included on this page? Even though they are technically outside canon, there are some new characters created for the set (at least for AFR) and even some pre-existing characters have their own entries in the wiki already. Should there be a separate section or tab denoting non-canon characters?

Lets not mix them, that would would be very confusing. For AFR they can be expanded on here: For https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons:_Adventures_in_the_Forgotten_Realms/Trivia --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 04:34, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Subpage threshold[]

Is there a threshold of secondary characters to get a subpage? This page is once again quite large and could probably use splitting off a few more of its sections. RudleyDudley (talk) 08:39, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Coming in quite late for my two cents. I think we should follow the Plane navbox precedent. If the plane has been the location for a premier set (i.e. it would go into the "Magic Story Set Settings" section), it should have it's own sub-tab. This would then leave the main List of secondary characters list as all the smaller, named planes with fewer characters. -- RivalRowan (talk) 01:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
I agree with this. RudleyDudley (talk) 00:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Origins for Thunder Junction characters[]

WotC, or at least Mark Rosewater, have confirmed that all characters in the Outlaws of Thunder Junction story arrived on the plane via Omenpath and prior to this the plane was uninhabited. How do we handle this given we usually list a characters by plane of birth (where known). If everyone was born off-plane, do they all need to go into the Unknown list (except when we know where they're from, e.g. Yuma from Capenna.) -- RivalRowan (talk) 01:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

I generally agree with the idea of putting characters on their homeplanes, but I'm still not entirely clear on Thunder Junction's natives. Are the cactusfolk native? Akul? The Atiin? I think it's fine to generally leave the ones we aren't sure the origin of as Thunder Junction until we get a bit more information on the plane's history. RudleyDudley (talk) 00:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Just to respond to this, neither Akul nor the Atiin are native to Thunder Junction, they are from other unnamed planes. The cactusfolk, however, are native, and they are the only sapient race who is.{{SUBST:User:Varghedin/SigX}} 12:39, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
As far as I know this is accurate, but I also don't think I've really have a source for it, so I'd still like to wait for a planeswalker's guide with more information. RudleyDudley (talk) 00:19, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Turns out no Guide or actual Legends article for OTJ. I'm alright with TJ legends moving to Unknown. RudleyDudley (talk) 17:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Tabs[]

Now that additional page have been added, I can't see the tabs beyond Lorwyn-shadowmoor.... --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 06:21, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Same. I see the full list on the page, but the taps on top stop at Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. Maybe there's a max tab limit?{{SUBST:User:Varghedin/SigX}} 12:41, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, I sent a message about this on the Discord, but it appears subtabs have a 15-tab limit, and there are 26 on the page now. I'm not sure the best way to display the data; I'm not a huge fan of subtabs in general but the page has been too large for a long time. RudleyDudley (talk) 00:19, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
What's the Discord channel? One alternative we could consider is to make separate pages for the lists that have tabs. {{SUBST:User:Varghedin/SigX}} 10:23, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Linked on the main page, here it is (for those in the future, use the main page, as the link may change). RudleyDudley (talk) 20:59, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
